The weather had improved for the KZ World Championship at Varennes. Sun, clouds that look pretty in the pictures and a dry track. The drivers waited as always until the last moment to jump, with at most two or three laps.
In session 1, it was between Kozlinski (Birel / TM), Paolo De Conto (Birel / TM) and Jordon Lennox-Lamb (CRG / Parilla). Rick Dreezen (Tony Kart / Vortex) was next, followed by Lorenzo Camplese (Intrepid / Parilla). Pole went to Lennox-Lamb in 51” 971 then De Conto by 22 thousandths. Kozlinski finished 5th, Jaime Alguersuari (Tony Kart / Vortex) 8th by less than 3/10. Surprisingly for Bas Lammers (Intrepid / TM), he was only 10th by 0.356”.
Max Verstappen (CRG / TM) quickly got into the action in the second session while his opponents were still warming up, and he was far ahead. Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart / Vortex) had yet to show his hand, Roberto Toninelli (Birel / TM) and Davide Fore (CRG / TM) followed at a short distance. Patrik Hajek (Praga / Parilla) suddenly jumped ahead but Ardigo concluded with the pole in the class, 51” 726, with Ben Hanley (ART GP / TM) second by 76 milliseconds ahead of Hajek, Fore and Verstappen.
If penalties don’t change the ranking – we think that noise was close to the limit – Ardigo is the pole-sitter, from Hanley and Hajek. Lennox-Lamb is 4th, De Conto 5th, Fore 6th and Verstappen 7th. The top 12 are invited to compete again in the Superpole.
