A sign of the times, the attraction for older machines can not be denied during a highly technological era. Passion for Historic Karts reaches a wider audience every year, either to collect, restore, or drive these noble witnesses of the past, or just to admire them. Knowledge of the past is essential for understanding the present, so such enthusiasm can only be beneficial to everyone.
The inventiveness of the pioneers of the discipline is still as exciting as ever to discover or rediscover, for specialists as much as for newcomers. It is to imagine such creativity these days, nor to appreciate such quality of work as the engineering craftsmen achieved.
The CIK-FIA has been actively in encouraging this momentum, involved for several years and participating in the organisation of two important events. The first is traditionally held in Italy on the Pista Azzura of Jesolo, the Coppa dei Campioni, while the CIK-FIA Karting Historic Super Cup is held within the framework of the World Championship this year at Le Mans.
The 4th edition of the Coppa di Campioni Vintage took place in an excellent atmosphere and under an azure sky last May at Jesolo (ITA). More than 150 historic karts, including some rare gems, were exhibited as part of the ASI Kart Show and a good proportion of them were able to go on track to demonstrate the origins of the discipline, thanks to the excellent organisation by the Automotoclub Storico Italiano.
During the CIK-FIA World KZ Championship held in September at Le Mans (FRA), fans of vintage karts witnessed 3rd edition of the Historic Super Cup. Although the weather was not always favourable, the public interest did not suffer as the Historic Karts were ideally grouped under a tent at the entrance to the paddock. The passion of the drivers to communicate about their machines, retracing the history of the discipline between 1956 and 1984, again fascinated the numerous spectators.
