A fairly serious crash hampered the start of the final KZ2 heat and a half-dozen karts stayed in the runoff. Apparently the Dutch driver Beitske Visser couldn’t start and several competitors crashed avoiding it. Simo Puhakka (PCR / TM) was in the lead ahead of Gary Carlton (CRG / Maxter), Matt Jaskol (Intrepid / TM), Anthony Abbasse (Sodi / Maxter) who was well placed on the inside, followed by Marco Ardigo and Rick Dreezen ( Tony Kart / Vortex). Carlton attacked immediately to take the lead.
Carlton advanced slightly, Puhakka kept up the pace, Abbasse and Ardigo fought a duel. Thomas Mich (Birel / TM) was in a nice 7th place, Ken Allemann (Birel / TM), in 9th. At the very end of the race, Carlton relaxed and Puhakka was back on him, but the victory went to the American. Puhakka was second and Abbasse 3rd, Ardigo 4th, Jaskol 5th and Dreezen 6th. Tony Lavanant, Cyndie Allemann and Kevin Lüdi were among the 13 drivers who didn’t cross the finish line.
