The qualifying heats were excellent on Saturday for the European KZ2 Championship with fierce battles despite the constant need to save the tyres at the Normandy meeting. Stan Pex (CRG / Vortex), winner of his three races, took control of the category ahead of Leonardo Lorandi (Tony Kart / Vortex), Paolo Besancenez (Tony Kart / Vortex), Luca Corberi (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Alessandro (Alex) Irlando (Energy / TM) completed the top five. Four drivers then followed with equal points: Nicolas Gonzales (Sodi / TM) 6th, Dylan Davies (CRG/TM)7th, Alexander Dahlberg (Tony Kart / Vortex) 8th and Alessio Piccini (Tony Kart / Vortex) 9th, with Marijn Kremers closing the top 10.
With two clear victories, Fabian Federer (CRG / Modena) paid dearly for his retirement on the starting line of his first heat and ends up 14th ahead of Geoffrey Jamin (Tony Kart/Vortex), Nicolas Picot (Tony Kart / Vortex) 18th, Hubert Petit (Sodi / TM) 21th, Tom Leuillet (Sodi / TM) 22th and Pierre Loubère (Sodi / TM) 25th with a fine 2nd place to his credit in the last heat. Qualification will be decided during the two Prefinals on Sunday morning in which tyre management may prove to be very important.
