Six qualifying heats were contested on Saturday afternoon with varying fortunes for the favourites.
Giaguaro Nero (IT, Maranello/TM) appeared to be on his way with a victory and a second place, just like Matteo Vigano (IT, Birel/IAME). Aniello Smarazzo (IT, FA Kart/Vortex) and Andrea Dale (IT, CRG/Maxter) kept in touch with a victory and a third place each. Robert Foster-Jones also had the same result (GB, FA Kart/Vortex).
James Thorp (GB, Maranello/IAME) only qualified in 16th, but took two second places. Marc Otero (ES, FA Kart/Vortex) took the same placings, but also had a third place.
Jack Harvey (GB, Birel/IAME) retired in one heat because of a mechanical failure on the penultimate lap, and he had not done better than third in any other race. Zdenek Groman (CZ, Maranello/IAME) had a fifth and sixth but had a 29th in the heat for groups C and D.
The fastest man in qualifying, Federico Scionti (IT, Maranello/TM), was unable to shine in traffic. The best result by Joel Johansson (SE, Energy/TM) was fourth place. Zoel Amberg (CH, Birel/IAME) has made good progress, but also experienced problems in the race.
We will see more tomorrow with four heats left to run in the morning.
