The front row was all CRG in the first KZ2 semi-final with Alessandro Manetti and Arnaud Kozlinski. Manetti took the lead at the start, while Alban Varutti made a very good start. Manetti aquaplaned though and violently hit the tyres that protect the starters at the “S”. Kozlinski took control from Varutti, Abbasse, Zefirini and Ardigo. Michael Ryall was t-boned by Tristan Papavoine who had not seen him.
Varutti managed to overtake Kozlinski and Zefirini and Ardigo took Abbasse. Zefirini also threatened Kozlinski while Manetti was still in his kart, surrounded by marshals and protected by yellow flags. A phoney war between Zefirini and Abbasse was going on – the two ended up in the run-off and a few penalties were likely. Varutti was first on the track but was penalised for overtaking under the yellow flag.
So Kozlinski was the winner of a hellish semi-final. Manetti was evacuated by ambulance. Christophe Benoit was second, ahead of Ardigo and De Gaye.
