The duel between the Russian Danil Kvyat (Tony Kart / Vortex) and the Italian Raffaele Marciello (Intrepid / TM) didn’t really take place in the KF3 finals of the 2009 Winter Cup. Kvyat took the lead and managed to maintain a gap of a few tenths from his opponent throughout the 28 laps. Carlos Sainz (Tony Kart / Vortex), who was 3rd for a long time, lost 2 places at the end of the race when Gerard Barrabeig (Intrepid / TM) and Macaulay Walsh (Birel / Parilla) took the advantage from him. A burst of fighting at the finish did not change the classification.
Nyck De Vries (Zanardi / Parilla), 5th at the start, was in 4th position until the 5th lap before losing 4 places at once. He was 7th until the last lap, mechanical problems did not allow him not to cross the finish line. There was a great recovery from Switzerland’s Michael Heche, who started 19th, and he continued to nibble away at his rivals to finish 6th. The best French driver, Mathieu Jaminet (Intrepid / TM) performed well throughout the weekend but could do no better than 8th in the final behind Oscar Tunnio (Birel / Parilla). Enzo Guibbert (Intrepid / TM) showed great tenacity to withstand the sometimes severe attacks from opponents who were still losing valuable positions. His 15th place at the finish is still a very fine performance after a 2008 season in Cadets.
Kvyat took the final victory ahead of Marciello and Barrabeig. Walsh was 4th, then Sainz in fifth.
