The 24th edition of Le Mans 24 hour karting race has been enlivened by a long and exciting duel between the teams Sarthe RTKF (# 2) and Sarthe RTKF 2 (# 72), both on state-of-the-art Sodi chassis.
The pole position in the timed practice session had been gained after a tight battle on Friday by Vincent Fraïsse, on kart #72. It is therefore logically Sarthe RTKF 2, with Alban Varutti at the wheel, who took the race lead off the start, followed by #72, Sarthe RTKF ( Wilfried Lecarpentier, Anthony Abbasse, Yoann Besnault and Bastien Borget). The latter team took the lead quite soon and kept it for almost 18 hours, thus scoring the mid-race points for the Euro Endurance series.
But Alban Varutti, Vincent Fraïsse, Jean-François Chaussis and Antoine Poulain came back like airplanes on Sunday afternoon and placed Sarthe RTKF 2 at the lead of the 24 hours. They were able to keep a one-lap lead on their team mates Sarthe RTKF until the chequered flag, to offer a superb overtaking to Sodikart, before fierce international rivals.
