Jean Todt, President of the FIA, and Albino Parolin, President of Parolin Racing Kart Srl, signed on Thursday 25 March 2010 in Geneva the 3-year contracts determining, further to a tender procedure, the exclusive supply of the engines for the CIK-FIA “U18” Karting World Championship and of the complete ready-to-use karts for the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy.
The decision to designate the Parolin company as single-supplier of this equipment for the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons has been taken by the World Motor Sport Council.
Issued with the initial aims of reducing competition costs and of ensuring the greatest possible opportunity of chances between competitors, the FIA’s invitations to tender have found their full significance in the present case as the Parolin company proposes the free disposal of its products to all the competitors entered in the CIK-FIA “U18” Karting World Championship and Academy Trophy!
«The FIA has placed amongst its priorities the resolute will to reduce costs related to the practice of motor sport, including at the highest level of its Championships, pointed out Jean Todt, President of the FIA. Karting is renowned for being the access way to motor sport and has a reputation of being a springboard to professional careers for young Drivers. It is therefore essential that its costs be strictly controlled. The offer from Parolin perfectly meets our concern.»
«More than any other form of motor sport, Karting must be affordable, simple and attractive because it is its grass roots and has training virtues, added Nicolas Deschaux, President of the CIK-FIA. With the CIK Commission, we are concerned about making it accessible to the largest number of people and enabling the most talented Drivers to attract attention without having to invest a fortune. Thanks to the free use of its engines for the “U18” World Championship and of its karts for the Academy, Parolin allows us to implement very high-level competitions at very attractive prices. For its part, the CIK-FIA stresses its will to promote young people, with specific races for 13-15 year-olds and for 15-18 year-olds, while supporting them with a novel education programme.»
«Our company, commented Albino Parolin, fully shares the groundbreaking concepts of this “U18” World Championship and of this Academy Trophy. Karting needed to refocus on its own roots and on the enhancement of up-and-coming Drivers, more than on unlimited technology which is necessarily costly. We are pleased to associate to the appealing project of the CIK-FIA our know-how, our experience and our philosophy for a very accessible Karting.»
