Though the Braga meeting was not completely up to Sodi Racing Team’s expectations, disappointment was not the dominating feeling in the French team during the night of the World Cup 2010. Pierre Gasly briefly occupied the first place in the KF3 final race and Anthony Abbasse staged a mad recovery in the KZ1 final and was undoubtedly the fastest on track. Sodi can be satisfied: its chassis are at the top at world level.
Sodi KF3 young drivers all qualified, but that came as no surprise, though they had to go through the obstacles that mark this type of competition, with some excellent performances at the Braga world meeting. Totally in on it, Charles Leclerc won one heat, but was later struck by bad luck, suffering two collisions in the final phases. Both fast and reliable, with his third best lap time in timed qualifying, Léo Roussel reached a new level by finishing just behind Gasly, sixth in the World Cup standings, which is no little thing at all!
The winner of the Cup was out of reach during the weekend, but Pierre Gasly had the means to fight for second place. After winning one heat, he was pushed in the following one and lost ground. But despite all that, he was third in the pre-final and conquered the lead of the final before his engine started to lose power and he was forced to content himself with 4th place: what a pity.
The only official driver in KZ1 was Anthony Abbasse, who started to become familiar with his new Maxter motorisation by Tec-Sav in Braga. Adjustments took longer than expected, but the machine was perfect at the start of the pre-final. A technical problem forced him to an early return to the stand and he had to give it all in the final. He accomplished his mission, since he staged an incredible recovery from 25th to 5th with best absolute time in the race; what could have happened without all those problems he had…
