Rick Dreezen and Tobias Nilsson were on the front for the first qualifying heat of the KZ2 Nations Cup. The weather was overcast but it was dry, with temperatures between 10 and 15 °c. The drivers were nervous and the race began with a false start. The Swede Philip Forman (Birel/TM) came from 5th to lead after a few corners beating Sauro Cesetti (Birel/BMB), Rick Dreezen (Tony/Vortex), Roberto Toninelli (Lenzo/TM) and Gianni Gazzurelli (FA/Vortex).
Mishel Georgiev (CRG/TM) passed Gazzurelli, followed by Alessandro Piccini (Tony/Vortex). Marco Ardigo (Tony/Vortex), starting 31st, recovered to 24th. Forsman escaped at the front and was now leading Toninelli, Cesetti and Dreezen. At halfway Forsman was 3s ahead, while Jesper Wernersson (Tony/Vortex) was the fastest on the track. Ardigo continued to rise through the field and was 21st. Dreezen advanced to 3rd ahead of Georgiev and Cesetti, and later Negro (DR/Parilla) and Gazzurelli, Pizzuti and Hajek by a few laps. Dreezen attacked Toninelli and took 2nd. Piccini went back down to 15th after contact, and Ardigo finished 18th. On the last lap Dreezen closed on Forsman with the fastest lap, but he managed his lead to win. Cesetti was 3rd, Toninelli 4th, Georgiev 5th, Negro 6th, and Gazzurelli 7th.
