The weather was very grey on Sunday morning on the Algarve, as a fresh wind pushed the clouds down from the nearby ocean. Jonathan Thonon (CRG / Maxter) won the A1 heat with ease in KZ with the fastest time, followed closely by Bas Lammers (Intrepid / TM), while Yannick De Brabander (Parolin / TM), Kozlinski (CRG / Maxter) and Ben Hanley (Maranello / Maranello) were in a group at the finish. Beitske Visser (Intrepid / TM) had not yet hit the front. The severe tyre wear continued to cause problems on this abrasive track despite the lower temperature.
It was a good win for Roberto Toninelli (Lenzo / TM) in the B1 heat ahead of Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart / Vortex), who was race leader for a long time. Jérémy Iglesias (Intrepid / TM), Paolo De Conto (Energy / TM) and Sauro Cesetti (Birel / BMB) completed the top 5.
The rain had stopped but the track remained damp for heat A2. The best starts were for Kozlinski, Lammers, Thonon and Piccioni. All of the drivers were on slicks, with the exception of Dylan Davies who retired on the first lap. Thonon took 2nd, but soon dropped to 8th position. He recovered with the fastest lap but he didn’t have enough time to get back to Piccioni, in 3rd. Lammers took an unstoppable victory ahead of Kozlinski.
De Conto, Iglesias and Toninelli stole the show in the heat B2, also with Ardigo and Fore ahead. Iglesias took the lead, De Conto replied. It was tight for the lead between Toninelli and De Conto. Fore was threatened by Ardigo a moment, but he still came fourth behind Cesetti and Fore. Iglesias was still not at the front, but was in 6th position on the track. Fore was attacked by Cesetti but he resisted Ardigo and Iglesias. Toninelli won, his second of the day which gave him pole position in the final, ahead of De Conto and Cesetti.
