Starting in the middle of the grid in the qualifying heats of the European KF3 Championship at Zuera after a difficult timed qualifying session – 10th in his series, 32nd overall – Max Verstappen aroused the enthusiasm of spectators with some exciting recoveries at the wheel of his CRG.
The young Dutch karter achieved, in particular, a third, a second and a first place as well as a fastest lap time in the race. For a driver of his calibre, a start from the first row of the pre-final logically paves the way to victory.
But sometimes race mishaps can come in the way. A contact by another driver forced Max down to 27th on the first lap. Determined as usual, he climbed back up to 16th place at the end of the race. After making an excellent start in the final, he was 9th on the second lap when he was hit again and sent into a spin, going down to 28th. During another frenzied recovery he fought his way to a final 14th place, a disappointing result, considering his huge potential.
