It was time for Qualifying for the KZ1 World Cup in Liege, it is 5:48 p.m. on Friday and the air is 28 ° C. The wifi was experiencing a moment of weakness, which complicated things a bit …
Anthony Abbasse (Sodi / Maxter) began to settle in first place ahead of Beitske Visser (Intrepid / TM), Jonathan Thonon (CRG / Maxter), Thomas Mich (Monza / TM) and Verdi Geurts (Maddox / TM). After Visser, Arnaud Kozlinski (CRG / Maxter) took over with 52,700, followed by Visser, Paolo De Conto (Energy / TM), Mich, and Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart / Vortex). Koko improved with an excellent 52,058, pole in the first group of KZ1 ahead of Abbasse, 52.228, Gary Catt (Tony Kart / Vortex), Visser, De Conto, Ardigo, Mich and Thonon.
The drivers were watching the clock that counted down the time available before going out on track for the second session of KZ1 qualifying. Armand Convers (Kosmic / Vortex) rushed the first one and was therefore the fastest at Genk. Gary Carlton (Zanardi / Parilla) woke up the pack, returning to the top 5. Now we know that the KZ1 competitors take almost two laps to warm up and reach their maximum speed: so there’s no room for error!
Bas Lammers (Intrepid / TM) set a 53 110 but then Convers took the lead with 52,678. Jorrit Pex (CRG / Maxter) and Yannick De Brabander (Parolin / TM) were improving their times. Davide Fore (CRG / Maxter) was faster than Rick Dreezen with 52,116 to 52 199. Fore improved one last time with 52035, pole in the group and the category, from Dreezen, De Brabander, Convers, Pex and Sauro Cesetti (Birel / BMB).
Fore was at the top by 23 thousandths from Kozlinski, with Dreezen 3rd, De Brabander 4th, Abbasse fifth, Catt 6th, Visser seventh – and totally confident! – De Conto 8th, Ardigo 9th and Convers 10th.
