The second participation of the young Dutchwoman Beitske Visser to the greatest American event of the year, the SuperNationals in Las Vegas, presented quite a few difficulties to overcome. First of all, the TM engines prepared by Tec-Sav were delayed more than reasonably tolerable because they were stopped at the Customs, disrupting practice sessions and the set-up of her Intrepid KZ2 chassis. Then, a crash on the first lap of the last heat nullified her efforts to regain ground from her 6th time in timed qualifying.
As usual, Beitske proved to be one of the fastest drivers in a group which included quite a few stars of the category. Much more at ease than in 2010, she was among the best during the whole meeting. Unfortunately the driver who hit her in the third heat and forced her into retirement seriously compromised her victory chances. Without this regrettable accident she could have started from 5th place, instead of the 14th place on the grid.
Knowing Beitske’s determination, a nice reaction could be expected from her during the final race. And indeed she did fulfil expectations, since she started a great recovery drive on a circuit not very suitable for overtaking. After her superb 25-lap feat, she crossed the finishing line in 6th place, just missing out on the 5th, with the best lap in the race in her pocket as evidence of her overall performance that would have deserved a completely different result, considering her talent.
