George Russell started the first final of the Academy Trophy on the first row next to Adrian Rozycki. Russell calmed the field well on the formation lap and quietly moved ahead of Alex Gill, Rozycki, Joonas Lappaleinen and Adeline Prudent who Lappaleinen then attacked on the second corner. Russell had already gained almost a second on Gill. Amaury Bonduel, fifth, went too far out of his line before the lights went out. Lappaleinen returned to third, Prudent fell to 6th behind Javier Cobian. Paolo Besancenez had already retired.
Gill didn’t rest in the heat, he set the fastest lap and made up some ground on Russell. Prudent was in ninth place, ahead of Rozycki in 11th and Erwan Julé. Gill sometimes closed on Russell but he was very steady and retained a clear advantage. Cobian attacked Lappaleinen. Behind Bonduel, within the scope of a 10s penalty, Mattia Drudi took sixth before being overtaken by Martin Ellegard. Russell ensured victory before an incisive Gill, Cobian third just ahead of Lappaleinen, 5th Ellegard, Drudi 6th, 7th Abela, Prudent 8th, 9th Pex and Julé 10th.
