The first half of the season is over and WSK paddock is now getting ready for the two remaining rounds, with drivers who need to widen the gap and other drivers who – on the contrary – need to achieve remarkable recoveries. WSK Promotion European kart racing is moving to Sarno (Italy), on 21st April, then – on 2nd June – the closing round of Genk (Belgium). Let’s have a look at the standings after the first round of Muro Leccese and the half-season Spanish round, run in Zuera.
Verstappen outpaces his competitors in KZ1. The Dutch Max Verstappen (CRG-TM-Bridgestone) beats the odds in Zuera and, despite a problem with his clutch in one of the heats, wins in both the KZ1 Finals. After his double victory in Muro Leccese, the result of Zuera is a déjà vu for Verstappen, the current leader of the standings with 170 points, 100 points more than the English Benjamin Hanley (ART GP-TM-Bridgestone), the runner-up both in Italy and Spain. Third, with 27 points, the other Dutch driver Jorrit Pex (CRG-TM-Bridgestone): one of the few drivers who tried to keep up with the leader. Special mention also for the Italian Paolo De Conto (Birel-TM-Bridgestone) and the British Jordon Lennox-Lamb (CRG-Parilla-Bridgestone): even though they follow with a more remarkable gap, they can play an important role in the final sprint.
