No. 22 – 20th July 2013
The preliminary phase of the KF and KFJ CIK-FIA European Championship ended today.
The championship is at its second and last round; the opening round took place nearly a month ago in Alcaniz, at the Motorland Aragon in Spain. Today’s race is hosted by the Circuito Internazionale d’Abruzzo, near Ortona, Italy. The 150 drivers taking part in the race, coming from all around the world, today participated in a long series of heats: 23 races, after the 5 they took part in on Friday. Yesterday’s races did not go as expected for some of the favourites who, today, were obliged to try tough recoveries. This situation made even more interesting today’s already thrilling races, which were broadcast live in streaming by the official websites www.cikfia.tv and www.cikfiachampionship.com.

About the video promotion, it is worth pointing out that the whole Sunday’s final phase will be broadcast live in streaming, from the drivers’ presentation at 10.20am. On the official web-channel it will be possible to view all the races until the Finals. On Tuesday 23rd July at 21.15, on Rai Sport 2, the delayed broadcast of the KF and KFJ finals, while on Friday 26th – always on the same channel – the Special report with the recap of the whole weekend.
Nielsen is always the leader in KF.
Nicklas Nielsen (Kosmic-Vortex-Vega) is the favourite in the race for the KF European championship. The Danish – current leader of the championship – grabbed the pole position in Prefinal 1 after winning two heats. However, he must keep his eyes wide open because the Dutch Max Verstappen (CRG-TM-Vega) is aiming at the double after his victory in the KZ European championship. Verstappen is in pole position in Prefinal 2 and, tomorrow, he will try to close the gap with Nielsen, 9 points ahead in the championship. Also the Italian Andrea Russo (Kosmic-Vortex-Vega) achieved a good performance and will start next to Nielsen in the front row. Behind them the Polish Karol Basz (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) and the English Jordon Lennox-Lamb (CRG-BMB-Vega). Verstappen will have the Croatian Martin Kodric (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega) by his side, while the second row is occupied by the English Callum Ilott (Zanardi-TM-Vega) and the Italian Felice Tiene (CRG-Parilla-Vega).
Ticktum starts well in KF Junior.
The British Daniel Ticktum, the best in yesterday’s qualifying, confirmed his performance achieving three victories in the heats and the best ranking. He grabbed the pole position in the Prefinal 1 of tomorrow morning. On the other hand, in Prefinal 2 the pole was achieved by his fellow countryman and team-mate Enaam Ahmed (Ricky Flynn Motorsport team). The latter won four heats but, despite this terrific performance, he did not manage to get to the top of the ranking because of a 12th place in one of yesterday’s heats. The two Prefinals are going to be very interesting given the names we find in the front rows: next to Ticktum there will be the Canadian Parker Thompson (Energy-TM-Le Cont). In row 2 will start the Belgian Matteo Raspatelli (Tony Kart-Parilla-Le Cont) and the Russian Alexander Vartanyan (Tony Kart-Vortex-Le Cont). Ahmed will have on his side the Dutch Martijn Van Leeuwen (Zanardi-TM-Le Cont) and, in 2nd row, the English Sasakorn Chaimongkol (Kosmic-TM-Le Cont) and the Italian Lorenzo Travisanutto (Tony Kart-Vortex-Le Cont). In both cases there are going to be great battles on track, also because the Championship leader, the English Lando Norris (FA Kart-Vortex-Le Cont), recovered well after the bad luck that hit him in qualifying: he is in the fourth row of Pre-final 1.
Potty in Pole Position in the Academy Trophy.
Three different drivers won in the CIK-FIA Academy Trophy (all on Parolin-Fim-Vega): the Belgian Maxime Potty, who will start from the pole position tomorrow, the Russian Artem Petrov and the Brazilian with an important last name: Pedro Piquet, closely followed by his three-time F1 World Champion father Nelson.
