The young French driver Thomas Laurent and the Cedric Sport team made a big impression.
With 21 heats to compete in total for the International Super Cup, the meeting at Varennes is busy. The first six races on Friday afternoon in beautiful weather have resulted in battles and some interesting twists.
Heat 1, F against G
Dorian Boccolacci (Energy / TM) encountered problems with his sprocket carrier and could not start. Jan Midrla (Birel / TM) moved up seven seats to win ahead of Matteo Vigano (Top Kart / Parilla), who set the fastest time. In fourth position, the Spaniard Jorge Pescador (CRG / TM) came up from 19th position on the grid. There was also a big recovery from Yoahann Cresson (Tony Kart / Vortex) who finished ninth after starting last.
Heat 2, D against E
Victory went to Riccardo Negro (DR / TM) after a long and exciting battle with Thierry Lolmède (RK / TM), which Julien Goupy (Praga / TM) joined in a little too enthusiastically, as he dropped to 7th with Lolmède on the next lap. Alexander Schmitz (Tony Kart / Vortex) took second position ahead of Symen Wiggers (CRG / TM) and Daniel Bray (GP / TM), the fastest of the race.
Heat 3, B against C
Gianmarco Ercoli (Tony Kart / Vortex) took off before the lights, which disturbed the start a little, but did not prevent Thomas Laurent (Tony Kart / Vortex) delivering an exceptional race for his age and experience. He battled hard and held off Marco Zanchetta (Maranello / TM) until the end. Initially delayed, Paul David (Tony Kart / Modena) came 3rd by 41 thousandths from Zanchetta and ahead of Alessandro Manetti (Praga / Parilla). Back in a better position was Joel Johansson (Energy / TM) in 6th and Loris Spinelli (CRG / TM) 7th. It was a difficult race for Ben Barnicoat (ART GP / TM) who lost eight places finishing 11th from Eric Ramon (Intrepid / Modena). Romuald Beauvois (Oberon / TM) and Xen De Ruwe (CRG / Maxter) retired.
H4 A against G
This time, Dorian Boccolacci (Energy / TM) had no trouble and won the second heat he raced in, leading from start to finish, 1.4” ahead of Jan Midrla (Birel / TM) while Yan Pesce (Energy / Parilla) made up six places and set the fastest time. There was a disappointment for pole-sitter Alexandre Arrue (Praga / Parilla) who broke the gear lever and had to retire.
H5 B against E
Victory went to Daniel Bray (GP / TM) ahead of Simone Brenna (TB Kart / Modena), 3rd was Paul David (Tony Kart / Modena). Six places were gained by Douglas Lundberg (LH / Maxter) in fourth. There was no chance for Julien Goupy (Praga / TM) who retired again. Xen De Ruwe (CRG / Maxter) was excluded from the race for being underweight.
M6, C against D
Another achievement for the young Thomas Laurent (Tony Kart / Vortex) with his second win of the day, this time after a duel against Riccardo Negro (DR / TM), while Marco Zanchetta (Maranello / TM) finished third without being able to attack Negro. Alexander Schmitz (Tony Kart / Vortex) finished fourth ahead of Nolan Mantione (Birel / TM), Joel Johansson (Energy / TM) and Julien Poncelet (ART GP / TM). It was a bad race for Thierry Lolmède (RK / TM) who retired two laps from the end when he was fifth.
