In his second international competition of the season in KZ2, Bas Lammers was able to win with Formula K. It was a great satisfaction in more ways than one for the champion from Holland. In a field worthy of a world event, the work and progress made by the team, as well as adverse weather conditions, contributed to a particularly striking success at Sarno.
The Neapolitan meeting had not started auspiciously: “We encountered many technical problems at Sarno in the free practice for the WSK Super Master Series,” explained Bas after the podium. “This is not an abnormal situation when the equipment is being developed. Our goal was to work on the race situation for the KZ World Championship taking place at this track in October. But when there performance is not there, it’s hard!“
Seeing Bas Lammers in 33rd in timed practice is certainly not common. The first two heats did not see much improvement, with the Dutch driver running in around 15th position. “The whole team was united to solve the problems. The collaboration with Falcon RS (Tec-Sav Engineering), the preparer of our IAME engines, was ultimately very successful. On Saturday afternoon, the mechanics gave complete satisfaction and the development of the chassis allowed me to come back.“
Bas gained 11 places in the last race, finishing 6th. The next day, the return to form of the equipment was confirmed during prefinal-A, in which the driver could finally fight successfully for the win. Leading from the first to the last lap of the final, the Dutchman gave his first victory to the Formula K team with all the mastery we know he has.
On the podium, Andrea Bertolini, the founder of the brand, didn’t hide his joy: “It is always a great satisfaction to win a race, but I admit that this has a special flavour. Not only is it the first of the season, the first with the Dutch driver, but in addition it has come about at a complex technical race that has enabled us to strengthen the team as well as the hardware. We made a big step forward in terms of the engine from the work of Thierry Savard. But don’t forget that it is the driver who achieved the win on the track, so I especially thank Bas for his performance. Congratulations to him!“
