By winning the International Super Cup in KZ2, the Dutchman Ryan Van Der Burgt secured DR Racing’s highest award in the most contested category of the season, a global title in the direct lineage of the previous World Cups. DR Racing has also achieved other wins this year with junior drivers.
The European champions in 2013 with Emil Antonsen, Danilo Rossi’s team confirmed the quality of its services this season during the KZ2 International Super Cup held at the Sarno circuit with nearly a hundred participants. The introduction of new more durable tyre compounds in early 2014 has in no way affected the performance of the DR chassis with the TM engine. Health problems prevented Antonsen from attempting to emulate his European title, but Van Der Burgt gradually took over at the front to be victorious in the global competition of the year.
10th in qualifying, and winning three heats and a second place, Ryan was forced to retire in the last heat while leading on the last lap. He retrieved the situation admirably during prefinal 2, starting from the third row. The leader from the first lap of the finals, Van Der Burgt resisted the pressure from his opponents perfectly and kept the lead until the finish line, picking up the best result of his career. Starting much further back after qualifying – 41st – Dylan Davies rallied strongly and ended up with 10th place in the world.
But the DR chassis also proved effective in KF-Junior in the hands of young up and coming drivers. Artem Petrov finished in 11th place in his first European Championship, and Sergey Travnikov took 2nd place in prefinal 1 during the World Championship in France before retiring in the final. Alex got the best team result by finishing 14th in the World after claiming 10th place in the WSK Champions Cup. The young Italian also won Rotax Junior in Italy driving a DR.
These numerous performances mean it has been a banner 2014 season for DR Racing, before finishing masterfully with a world victory.
