The sun came out for a couple of hours at the Lucas Guerrero international circuit when the first Max Junior drivers went out for their qualifying session. A strong wind swept the venue. Dzianis Slavinski (Belarus) took the lead halfway through with a lap 58”953, way ahead of his opponents. Mick Wishofer (Austria) then moved closer by 3/100. Nathan Hédouin (France) moved up into the top 10 before losing ground. Max Timmermans (Belgium) waited for the end of the session to move up to third position. Wishofer – with 58”837 – took the lead by 22 thousandths from Jordan Sheratt (South Africa) in the final moments. Slavinski was third, Deniz Beckers (Belgium) 4th and Timmermans 5th. Hédouin finished 17th 4 tenths off pole.
Rokas Baciuska (Lithuania) was a long way in the lead of the 2nd session. He was joined by Richard Verschoor (Netherlands) and surpassed by Murilo Dell Coletta (Brazil), while Thomas Preining (Austria) was back in business. Dave Wooder (UK) climbed to 2nd place, 2 thousandths from pole, with 3 minutes remaining. In the final seconds, Bacisuka took control brilliantly – with 58”631 – beating Denis Mavlanov (Russia) by 0.155 ‘. Bryce Fullwood (Australia) set the third time in front Della Coletta and Luke Willemse (Holland).
Pole position therefore went to Baciuska, with Mavlanov 2nd, Fullwood 3rd, Della Coletta 4th, Wishofer 5th, Sherratt 6th, Willemse 7th, Wooder 8th, Slavinski 9th and Grams 10th.
