The weather remained overcast, cool and windy on Friday morning in Valencia for the last qualifying heats of the 2014 Rotax Grand Final. The races again caused many unfortunate incidents …
Rokas Baciuska (LTU) finished ahead in the Junior Max category from Thomas Preining (AUT), Max Timmermans (BEL) and Luc Willemse (NED). Dave Wooder (GBR) is 6th, Juri Vips (EST) 8th, Richard Verschoor (NED) 10th, Murilo Della Coletta (BRA) 17th, Mick Wishofer (AUT) 18th and Alex Quinn (GBR) 28th. Nathan Hédouin (FRA) was 32nd, having been severely shaken in his last race, but brilliantly won the repechage in the rain.
In Senior Max, Bruno Borlido (POR) continues to lead ahead of Carlos Gil (ESP), Luca Travaglini (BRA) and Eduardo Garcia (ESP). Josh White (GBR) finished 5th, and Zachary Claman Demelo (CAN) 6th. Nicolas Picot (FRA) in 7th has done very well. Aavo Talvar (EST) is 11th and Guan Yu Zhou (GBR) 14th ahead of Martin Mortensen (DEN), Dylan Lahaye (BEL) 19th and Harry Webb (GBR) in 21st. Joseph Reilly (GBR) in 39th, Josh Price (GBR) in 42nd, Viktor Öberg (SWE) and Jules Cousin (FRA) in 59th have not qualified.
The final battle between Sean Babington (GBR) and Ben Cooper (CAN) is set up. Babington has so far been dominant as he was undefeated in the DD2 heats. Jordan Boys (AUS) is 3rd in front of Bradley Liebdenberg (RSA), Xen De Ruwe (BEL) and Edward Brand (GBR) in 6th. Ferenc Kanscar (HUN) and Rasmus Markkanen (FIN) are in 10th and 11th places, and they are drivers to watch in the finals. The French drivers Maxime Gravouille and Jules Bollier have qualified 24th and 26th, while Alexander Anstett is in with his 2nd place in the repechage.
Cristiano Morgado (RSA) is on a different planet to his opponents in DD2 Master, as evidenced by his 3 big wins in the heats. Martin Pierce (IRL), Mikko Laine (FIN) and Primoz Matelic (SLO) form a strong group with Tiffany Chittenden (NZL). The combined French attack consists of Jeremie Charon in 7th, Charlie Hipp in 9th and Florent Lambert in 11th. Christophe Adams (BEL) is still in a good position in 13th. Guillaume Berteaux (FRA) perfectly completed his mission by winning the repechage in the rain.
