Already a top-class kart driver, Benjamin Lessennes will not be abandoning his favourite discipline in 2016. The young Belgian will in fact be competing in the European Championship with the VDK Racing team. But at the same time the 16-year old will be tackling a major challenge when he takes part in the TCR Benelux driving a Honda Civic for Boutsen Ginion Racing.
“I will be competing in the TCR Benelux 2016,” smiles the Coyote Racing Team driver. “This competition promises to be particularly interesting and I think it will be an ideal context in which to test myself against the many Belgian and Dutch specialists in that class. I know I have a great deal to learn, but I hope to be up there with the best of them in a very short time. I competed in two rounds of the VW Fun Cup last year and they went extremely well. Now it’s time for something completely different.“
But the young Belgian’s 2016 schedule will not be stopping there! “The TCR Benelux season will only start at the end of May, and we know that it is important to maintain a competitive rhythm come what may. What could be better than karting for keeping your hand in?” Benjamin asks. “I will be with the VDK Racing team again. It was with the Verdaasdonk family that I achieved my best results and we have always understood each other very well. I have total confidence in their ability to perform from the very start with the new OK engines, and above all we can rely on the support of the IAME factory and IAME Belgium. Although I will be representing a private team, the aim will be to beat the factory drivers!“
