There have been some good action so far in karting this year. With a few number of injuries off the field, all the action has been centred on the track as the drivers compete for top honours. As a number of Britons are participating in the karting 2018 season which has so far been held in countries such as Italy, France and Germany, the focus of this article is on reliving the great memories fellow Britons Danny Keirle and Dexter Patterson left us last season in the hope that sports betting UK fans may just get the encouragement to get involved more in karting.
Danny Keirle (OK Class)
Danny Keirle won the world championship title last year as he won four of his five heats. Danny failed to win the first of his five races finishing in second position but managing to take pole position on overall points accumulated. Danny’s quest for a world title championship was aided by his win in the 22-lap main race which he won after an impressive start. Though he only won by a whisker, he was at least the first to cross the finish line.
Danny raced against teammate in the main race, Esteban Muth who gave him good competition as he was behind Danny for most of the race only to hit another kart before the final lap and had points deducted resulting in him finishing in a distant 10th place. The eventual runner-up was 15 year old and former junior world vice-champion, David Vidales. Vidales has since graduated to single-seaters starting in January of this year.
The other racers who finished among the top 10 positions in the world championship race are Juho Valtenen (3rd), Paavo Tonteri (4th), Rasmus Lindh (5th), Gianluca de Castro Petecof (6th), Hannes Janker (7th), Axel Charpentier (8th), Louie Westover (9th), and Esteban Muth (10th).
Dexter Patterson (OK Junior Class)
British racers dominated last year’s regular karting season and also the junior world championship event. Before the start of the junior world championship race, two racers were touted as the favourites i.e. Johnny Edgar and Harry Thompson. These two had gained a reputation of being the best racers as they had put in some great shifts during the course of the regular season. However, as fate would have it, their impressive performances in the regular karting season did not extend to the world championship event as another Briton took matters into his own hands, and the player is Dexter Patterson.
Without much support, Dexter Patterson overtook Harry Thompson to go in front in the first two laps. For the next three laps, Zane Maloney put immense pressure on Patterson but he failed to negotiate a sharp turn and dropped down the order. Christopher Lulham, another Briton then took second position and gave Patterson a good run, at the end, it was just 4 seconds that separated first and second. Completing the top three was Harry Thompson who ensured that everyone who went to the podium hailed from the UK.
Other players who finished in the top 10 are Shihab Al Habsi (4th), Zane Maloney (5th), Jack Doohan (6th), Gabriel Bortoleto (7th), Luca Bosco (8th), Victor Bernier (9th), and Andrea Rosso (10th).
