Three Qualifying Heats remained to be contested on Sunday morning at Angerville before the 34 finalists of the FIA Karting European Championship – Junior would be revealed. As often, the course of these decisive races was somewhat chaotic, the drivers at the edge of qualification trying all the while with their new tyres, as they would in a Repechage.
Several favourites were caught in skirmishes, often in the first corners after the start. Thus Jamie Day (Exprit / Vortex), Atrem Severiukhin (Tony Kart / Vortex), Thomas Ten Brinke (FA Kart / Vortex) and Robert De Haan (Energy / TM) were severely delayed. Already far behind, Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR / Iame) also retired with a bent axle.
Maksim Soldatov (Energy / TM) won the EF heat ahead of Conrad Laursen (FA Kart / Vortex) and Enzo Peugeot (Kosmic / Iame) with a 10-place gain. 5th with the fastest time, Arthur Rogeon (Sodi / TM) dropped back to 14th because of a spoiler penalty. Mattéo Spirgel (Birel ART / TM) and Lola Lovinfosse (Tony Kart / Iame) lost places for the same reason.
Lorens Lecuerta (FA Kart / Iame) won the CD heat in front of Marcel Kuc (Parolin / TM), but Tuuka Taponen (Redspeed / Iame) held up well in 3rd position and achieved the fastest lap despite his not very fresh tyres. Alex Dunne (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Marcus Amand (KR / Iame) followed on a very good pace. Evan Giltaire (Sodi / TM) managed to finish 7th.
Tymoteusz Kucharczyk (Parolin / TM) won the AB heat, while Elliott Vayron (Birel ART / TM) was brilliantly back in 2nd place (+11 places) with the fastest time against James Wharton (FA Kart / Vortex) and Ugo Ugochukwu ( FA Kart / Vortex). Macéo Capietto (KR / Iame) was in 8th place, letting users of new rubber pass.
Taponen took the lead ahead of Wharton, Kucharczyk and Ugochukwu were on the second row for the Final ahead of Laursen and Ten Brinke, while the fourth row was 100% French with Giltaire and Amand.
