The weather was fine but cool (5°) on Sunday morning in Lonato for the OK Prefinals of the second round of the WSK Super Master Series.
Intermediate leader Luigi Coluccio (Tony Kart/Vortex) started Prefinal A in the lead, but Enzo Deligny (Parolin/TM) attacked him on the first lap. Joe Turney (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Alex Powell (KR/Iame) followed. Coluccio dropped back to 7th place. Deligny broke away from Turney and Powell, with Maksimilian Popov (Tony Kart/Vortex) 4th at over 4” back. Coluccio came back to 4th place with a best time 3” behind 3rd placed Turney. Powell moved up to 2nd and closed in on Deligny, taking the lead at the halfway point. The Frenchman recovered and came back to the leader while Coluccio was chasing Turney. The first four drivers regrouped in view of the finish line and Coluccio started by passing Turney before attacking Deligny. The last lap was epic before Turney won ahead of Coluccio, with Powell 3rd and Deligny 4th. Maksim Orlov (Parolin/TM) took 5th place 2” further back.
Tuukka Taponen (Tony Kart/Vortex) took the lead at the start of the Prefinal B against Freddie Slater (LN/Vortex) and Kean Nakamura Berta (KR/Iame) in a battle. Ean Eyckmans (Tony Kart/Vortex) then passed Slater in 3rd place and was overtaken shortly after by Artem Severiukhin (Tony Kart/Vortex). Nakamura tried to come back on the leader Taponen, more than a second ahead of him. Shortly after the halfway point, Cristian Bertuca (Birel ART/TM) entered the top five ahead of Slater, then passed Eyckmans for 4th place. The Italian was then caught by Slater. Taponen won by 4 tenths despite Nakamura’s comeback. Severiukhin finished 3rd, Slater 4th, Bertuca 5th.
Provisional results pending official publication.
