Last December, FIA Karting announced the change in race format as follows:
The Qualifying Phase is completed by one (or two) Super Heat(s) depending on the number of participants. Longer than a Qualifying Heat, the Super Heat (15 to 20 km) takes place after the Qualifying Heats to give drivers an additional opportunity to reach the Final.
Questions remained about the scoring of these Super Heats.
It has since been confirmed that the scoring system is the same as for any other heat. A final intermediate ranking will then be established for the top 72 by adding the points from the heats and Super Heats to determine the starting grid for the Final. It will also allow Championship points to be awarded to the top 10 finishers, replacing those previously awarded for the Qualifying Heats. (10 pts for 1st, 9 for 2nd, 8 for 3rd, …)
The Super Heat is not just another heat thanks to two essential differences
– it is longer than a classic heat
– reserved for the first 72 drivers after the Qualifying Heats
The FIA Karting Academy Trophy will be the only competition to keep the previous race format without Super Heats.
