The Super Heat of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ concluded on Sunday morning in Genk with 24° and bright sunshine.
With a seven-point lead in the intermediate classification, the pressure was not on the shoulders of Emilien Denner (Sodi/TM) who started from pole ahead of Matteo Vigano (Birel ART/TM), Paolo Ippolito (KR/Iame) and Jorrit Pex (KR/TM). The start went smoothly, but a collision occurred on the first lap between Simo Puhakka (Tony Kart/Vortex), Noal Milell (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Alex Irlando (CRG/TM). Jorrit Pex was 2nd followed by Ippolito. Tuukka Taponen (Tony Kart/Vortex) retired. Pex took the lead on lap 3, then Ippolito overtook Denner on the following lap. Francesco Celenta (Parolin/TM) then passed Vigano for 4th place. Pedro Hiltbrand (Birel ART/TM) was back in the top five ahead of Vigano. Senna van Walstijn (Sodi/TM) had made up six places by reaching 6th position ahead of Stan Pex (KR/TM) while Adrien Renaudin (Tony Kart/Vortex) was holding on to 9th. Ippolito attacked Pex for the lead at mid-race with Denner back in 2nd. There was a fastest lap for van Walstijn who was back in the top five. Ippolito took the win with a good 1,1” lead. Denner secured 2nd place under pressure from Jorrit Pex, Celenta and van Walstijn. Renaudin finished 10th ahead of his team-mate Lorenzo Camplese (Tony Kart/Vortex) who had moved up 13 places. Marijn Kremers (Birel ART/TM) had recovered nine places to 12th. Jérémy Iglesias (CRG/TM) finished 14th, Gabin Leuillet (Birel ART/TM) 16th, Yohan Soguel (Oberon/TM) 17th (+14 places) and Louis Bonsaudo (Intrepid/TM) 23rd.
In the final intermediate classification, Denner remained leader against Ippolito, with Vigano 3rd, Pex 4th and Celenta 5th.
