The DD2 category, described as the ultimate by Rotax, concluded the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals 2022 in Portimao. Favourite Mark Kimber (GBR) was leading on the first lap ahead of Jakub Bezel (CZE), Glenn van Parijs (BEL), Xen De Ruwe (SVN) and Petr Bezl (CZE). Good start for Nicolas Picot (FRA) 6th, Antoine Barbaroux (FRA) 8th and Paolo Besancenez (FRA) 14th. Van Parijs was in 2nd position, but the threat of Jakub Bezel behind him did not help him to challenge the leader Kimber who was setting the fastest times. Barbaroux retired on lap 5 after a collision, whereas Besancenez entered the top 10 with a gain of nine places. De Ruwe was looking for a gap on Petr Bezel, who was known to be difficult to overtake. The manoeuvre was successful on lap 10, with Picot following in 5th position. At the halfway point, Kimber had increased his lead over Van Parijs to more than a second, followed by Jakub Bezel by 6 tenths. On the 14th lap Besancenez passed Kris Haanen (NLD) for 7th place. Picot lost ground when Petr Bezel attacked then came back to 5th ahead of Besancenez. Axel Saarniala (FIN) continued his good progress in 6th position after passing Besancenez. Jakub Bezel closed the door on an attack from De Ruwe that sent him into the grass. Kimber took a historic victory as winner of three categories in the RMCGF. Van Parijs finished 2nd by 2.5 seconds. And Jakub Bezel was 3rd 2 seconds further back. De Ruwe had to settle for 4th position. Saarnilia finished 5th (+7 pl). Besancenez 7th (+12 pl) had come up against Petr Bezel in his crazy comeback from 72nd position in Qualifying. Picot did not finish the race.
