The wind freshened the air in Zuera on Sunday morning for the Super Heat of the first round of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ. Senna van Walstijn (Sodi/TM) and Tom Leuillet (Tony Kart/Vortex) shared the front row.
Lorenzo Travisanutto (Parolin/TM) was slow to reach the start line while Tom Leuillet (Tony Kart/Vortex) attacked Van Walstijn to complete the first lap in the lead. Jeremy Iglesias (CRG/TM) and Emilien Denner (Sodi/TM) followed in 3rd and 4th positions. Riccardo Longhi (Birel ART/TM) was 5tgh. The battle for the lead was raging. After several overtaking moves between the two frontrunners, Leuillet crashed out in 12th place following contact, while Van Walstijn was leading. Iglesias was fighting for 2nd place, followed by Denner. Danilo Albanese (KR/Iame) was back in 4th and Matteo Vigano (Birel ART/TM) 5th. Arthur Carbonnel (CRG/TM) had retired, Paolo Besancenez (Birel ART/TM) and Yohan Soguel (Oberon/TM) were hanging on. Iglesias was looking for a way to get the better of Van Walstijn and found the answer on lap 9. Van Walstijn responded, as expected, on the penultimate lap. Van Walstijn was 31 thousandths ahead of Iglesias. Denner was 3rd by 4 tenths. Then Albanese took 4th place and Vigano 5th. Viktor Gustafsson (CRG/TM) moved up 10 places to 7th, followed by Pedro Hiltbrand (Birel ART/TM) who moved up seven positions. Leuillet finished 10th with the fastest lap behind Paolo Ippolito (KR/Iame). In 13th position, Adrien Renaudin (DR/Modena) had moved up 13 places.
