Oleksandr Bondarev is unstoppable! The young Ukrainian and his KR / IAME started the season with a 2nd place in Valencia in Spain, before winning in Trinec in the Czech Republic and then again this weekend in Rodby in Denmark. 5th in Timed Qualifying, 4th after the heats and 3rd in the Super Heat, he patiently built up to his victory.
However, Italy’s Iacopo Martinese (KR / IAME) made an excellent start to the race, while Bondarev was busy overtaking Belgium’s Thibaut Ramaekers (KR / IAME) and Christian Costoya (Parolin / TM). Bondarev quickly closed the gap and went on to a brilliant solo win. Great Britain’s Zac Drummond (Parolin / TM) joined the battle for the podium.
But in the end it was Stepan Antonov (KR / IAME), who made a superb comeback from 13th place, who edged out his rivals for 2nd place. Martinese saved the third step of the podium from Costoya. The next positions went to three of the weekend’s great contenders: Singaporean Tiziano Monza (Parolin / TM), Drummond and Belgian Dries Van Langendonck (Forza / TM). Initially 7th, Kirill Dzitiev dropped down to 11th place following a penalty (spoiler).
Ramaekers and Lewis Wherrell (Exprit / TM), who finished provisionally 2nd and 3rd in the European Championship, had difficult Finals, scoring only 18th and 13th place respectively. Frenchman Andy Consani (Parolin / TM) continued to make progress. He finally completed the top-10 behind Sweden’s Scott Kin Lindblom (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Jack Iliffe (Parolin / TM). Austrian Niklas Schaufler (KR / IAME), who started 8th, retired early on.
