The 125 drivers of the FIA Karting World Cup – KZ2 were divided into five sessions for the Qualifying Practice session in Wackersdorf. The sun began to heat up late on Friday morning and the temperature rose to 25°.
Session 1: Sprigel – 45”613
Matteo Spirgel (Sodi/TM) was fastest on the third lap ahead of Tim Tröger (Maranello/TM). He improved to 45’680 on lap 4, then 45’613 on lap 5. Thomas Imbourg followed at 86 thousandths, Alessio Piccini (Birel ART/TM) was 3rd at a tenth, ahead of Jean Nomblot (Sodi/TM) and Jorge Pescador (Kali’Kart/TM). Enzo Lacreuse (DR/Modena) finished 16th.
Session 2: Nakamura-Berta – 45”479
Kean Nakamura-Berta (KR/Iame) was in the lead on the second lap. Daniel Vasile (Birel ART/TM) improved on lap 3, Nakamura replied in 45”588 on lap 4 and then finished in 45”479, provisional pole, 1.5 tenths ahead of Vasile and Nils Tröger (Maranello/TM) on equal terms. Egor Nosov (IPK/TM) finished 4th and Gabin Leuillet (Birel ART/TM) 5th ahead of Tomass Stolcermanis (Energy/TM). Jérémy Potain (Birel ART/TM) was 13th and Laura Bourguet (Oberon/TM) 23rd.
Session 3: Orlov – 45”290
Maksim Orlov (Parolin/TM) was already the fastest on the second lap ahead of Yevan David (Sodi/TM). Nikolas Roos (CRG/TM) led in 45”736 on lap 3, then Orlov improved to 45”290, provisional pole, on lap 5. Roos was 2nd by 4 tenths, David 3rd by 0.585”, Matteo Zanchi (CRG/TM) 4th and Markus Kajak (Birel ART/Modena) 5th. Vincent Wanègue (Sodi/TM) finished 11th.
Session 4: Powell – 45”505
Moritz Ebner (Drago Corse/TM) led on the second lap, Alex Powell (KR/Iame) regained control on the third lap and finished in the lead with a fifth lap time of 45”505. Genis Civico (Parolin/TM) was 2nd at 0.148”, Matheus Morgatto (Birel ART/TM) 3rd at 0.243”. Paavo Tonteri (CRG/TM) took 4th place ahead of the first woman, Emma Felbemayr (KR/TM). Ebner finished 6th and Norton Andreasson (Tony Kart/Vortex) 8th. Tim Locati (Sodi/TM) was 12th.
Session 5: Stell – 45”699
Robert Kindervater (Birel ART/TM) was fastest on the third lap ahead of Daniel Stell (KR/Iame) who took the lead on the fourth lap and replied to Maxim Rehm (Birel ART/TM) on the fifth lap to finish in 45”699, 2 hundredths clear. Kinervater was 3rd at 9 hundredths, while Cristian Bertuca (Birel ART/TM), who started later than the others, came 4th ahead of Christiaan de Kelijn (CRG/TM). Celian Gallasin (Maranello/TM) finished 10th, Damyen Droux (Sodi/TM) 21st.
