The KZ World Championship drew to a close at the FIA Karting meeting in Wackersdorf with a 26-lap Final race in 30°C weather with a few clouds.
The high-voltage start was followed by a catastrophic beginning to the race. Danilo Albanese (KR/Iame), David Trefilov (Maranello/TM), Emilien Denner (Sodi/TM), Jérémy Iglesias (CRG/TM) and Tom Leuillet (Tony Kart/Vortex) failed to finish the first lap. Senna van Walstijn (Sodi/TM) followed on the next lap.
Paolo Ippolito (KR/Iame) led ahead of Stan Pex (KR/TM) and Matteo Vigano (Birel ART/TM). Viktor Gustaffson (CRG/TM) was 4th, followed by Lorenzo Camplese (Tony Kart/Vortex). Ippolito quickly got away ahead of Pex. Gustafsson moved up to 3rd ahead of Vigano and Camplese. Pedro Hiltbrand (Birel ART/TM) and Giuseppe Palomba (Birel ART/TM) collided and disappeared before the halfway point. Gustafsson took 2nd place from Stan Pex on lap 13 and concentrated on closing the gap to Ippolito to 1.9″. Given his performances, this didn’t seem impossible. In fact, he was able to lap up to two tenths faster than the leader. Ippolito gave it everything he had and managed to win 0.476” ahead of Gustafsson, who moved up 10 places. Pex was 3rd at 2.5″, Vigano 4th and Camplese 5th. Jorrit Pex (KR/TM) secured 6th place ahead of Francesco Celenta (Parolin/TM) and Lorenzo Travisanutto (Parolin/TM), both up 12 places. Riccardo Longhi (Birel ART/TM) finished 9th (up 14 places) and Luigi Coluccio 10th. Adrien Renaudin (DR/Modena) was 11th, Arthur Carbonnel (CRG/TM) 13th, Anthony Abbasse (Sodi/TM) 15th and Craig Tanic (Birel ART/TM) 16th. 21 of the 36 drivers who started the race made it to the finish.
Provisional results pending publication of the final rankings.
