The thermometer reached 30° and the skies partly cleared for the Final of the FIA Karting World Cup – KZ2 at Wackersdorf.
Niels Tröger (Maranello/TM) got off to an excellent start against Alex Powell (KR/Iame) and Daniel Vasile (Birel ART/TM). Cristian Bertuca (Birel ART/TM) was forced to retire, while Daniel Stell (KR/Iame), Matteo Spirgel (Sodi/TM), Matteo Zanchi (CRG/TM), Robert Kindervater (Birel ART/TM) and Maksim Orlov (Parolin/TM) also fell victim to the demonic start to the race. Kean Nakamura-Berta (KR/Iame) had dropped back to 13th. Powell was under investigation. Thomas Imbourg (Sodi/TM) was 4th, while Jean Nomblot (Sodi/TM) had climbed 10 places to 5th ahead of Alessio Piccini (Birel ART/TM). Powell closed to within 3 tenths of leader Tröger. Nakamura was back in the top 10 behind Matheus Morgatto (Birel ART/TM). Gabin Leuillet (Birel ART/TM) was 18th, while Spirgel was still in the race, 27th and last on track. Powell was still at least 3 tenths behind Tröger at the halfway stage, but the gap widened after that. Nakamura was the fastest driver as he worked his way up through the field. He reached 8th place and Tomass Stolcermanis (Energy/TM) was his next target. Tröger was on his way to victory as he closed the gap on his rival. Tröger won the World Cup, a first for a German driver, 1.4″ ahead of Powell, Vasile was 3rd ahead of Imbourg and Nomblot. Nakamura finished 6th with the fastest lap and an improvement of seven places since the first lap. Leuilet was 17th (+5 pl) and Spirgel 24th.
