The final Qualifying Heats of the Mondokart.com FIA World Karting Championship – KZ took place in sunny Wackersdorf on Sunday lunchtime.
Super Heat A: Trefilov ahead of Leuillet
Jérémy Iglesias (CRG/TM) got off to a good start in front of David Trefilov (Maranello/TM) and Tom Leuillet (Tony Kart/Vortex). Danilo Albanese (KR/Iame) spun on his own and crashed out to 22nd place. Lorenzo Camplese (Tony Kart/Vortex) was 4th ahead of Jorrit Pex (KR/TM), Arthur Carbonnel (CRG/TM) 6th and Pedro Hiltbrand (Birel ART/TM) 7th. Anthony Abbasse (Sodi/TM) overtook Alessandro Irlando (Drago Corse/TM) for 11th place. Craig Tanic (Birel ART/TM) was 17th. Trefilov put the pressure on Iglesias at the halfway stage with Leuillet looking on. Trefilov attacked Iglesias under braking on lap 11 and took the lead. Leuillet followed in 2nd place ahead of Iglesias. Trefilov set the fastest lap, 7 tenths ahead of Leuillet. Iglesias secured P3 ahead of Camplese and Pex. Carbonnel finished 6th, Abbasse 10th and Tanic 16th.
Super Heat B: Superb victory for Denner
Paolo Ippolito (KR/Iame) took the lead at the start from Emilien Denner (Sodi/TM) and Stan Pex (KR/TM). Senna van Walstijn (Sodi/TM) was 4th ahead of Yohan Soguel (Sodi/TM). Viktor Gustafsson (CRG/TM) got off to a poor start and was 10th between Riccardo Longhi (Birel ART/TM) and Marijn Kremers (Birel ART/TM). In 15th place, James Meyer (EKS/TM) set the fastest time of the day. Gustafsson was back up to 7th ahead of Francesco Celenta (Parolin/TM). At the halfway stage, Denner had closed to within 2 tenths of Ippolito, who was now in defensive mode. Denner made his attack on lap 10, while Pex was hot on Ippolito’s heels with van Walstijn in ambush. Gustafsson, the fastest driver on track, overtook Soguel for 5th place with three laps to go. Denner won with the fastest time and a 1.7″ advantage over Ippolito. Pex finished 3rd, Gustafsson was back in 4th place, but a 5″ penalty for causing an incident relegated him to 11th place. Van Walstijn regained 4th place ahead of Soguel, Celenta was 6th and Luigi Coluccio (Tony Kart/Vortex) 7th.
Pole position in the final went to Trefilov alongside Ippolito, with Denner and Pex sharing the second row ahead of Iglesias and Leuillet. Soguel was 8th, Carbonnel 16th, Renaudin 17th, Abbasse 22nd and Tanic 33rd.
