On Friday morning, the OK-Junior World Championship entered its first phase, with five Qualifying sessions for 123 participants. The Franciacorta track was dry, the sky partly cloudy and the temperature 20° / 22°. To manage the Vega tyres, it was necessary to let the first three to four minutes pass before entering the track, in order to get the best out of them during two or three flying laps.
Session 1: Micallef – 49”096
Jacob Micallef (Tony Kart/Vortex) set the fastest time on his second run in 49”096. Dries van Langendonck (Exprit/TM) followed at 6 hundredths, while Mike Parhiala (Gillard/TM) was 3rd 1.5 tenths further back. Augustus Toniolo (KR/Iame) and Roman Kamyab (LN/TM) completed the top five. Zac Drummond (Parolin/TM) finished 10th ahead of Salim Hanna (KR/Iame).
Session 2: Pohjola – 48”658
Thibaut Ramaekers (KR/Iame) was fastest on the second lap, but ahead of Joel Pohjola (Gillard/TM) set the fastest time of 48”658 on the third lap, 27 thousandths quicker than the Belgian. Filippo Sala (LN/Vortex) followed by 5 hundredths, while Endo Arata (Tony Kart/Vortex) was 4th at 1.5 tenths ahead of Iacopo Martinese (KR/Iame). Jack Illife (Parolin/TM) finished 7th, Thomas Quincé (Tony Kart/Vortex) 9th and Oleksandr Bondarev (KR/Iame) only 14th.
Session 3: Saleh – 48”781
Taym Saleh (KR/Iame) led on the second lap and was 48’781 faster on his third run, 15 thousandths better than Stepan Antonov (KR/Iame). Sébastien Minns (KR/Iame) was 3rd, a tenth behind, then Scott Kin Lindblom (Tony Kart/Vortex) 4th ahead of Davide Bottaro (Tony Kart/Vortex). Andy Consani (Parolin/TM) was 7th, Louis Cochet (Sodi/TM) 11th, Maël Le Marchand (Kosmic/Vortex) 14th, Walter Schulz (KR/Iame) 15th and Philippe Karras (Exprit/Vortex) 17th.
Session 4: Monteiro – 48”868
Noah Monteiro (KR/Iame) was fastest on the second lap ahead of Noah Wolfe (Birel ART/TM) and Oliver Rasmussen (CRG/TM). Monteiro set the fastest time of 48’868 on lap 3. Henry Domain (Energy/TM) followed at 41 thousandths, then Scott Marsh (Tony Kart/Vortex) 4th at 2 tenths and Wolfe 5th. Jean Karras (Exprit/Vortex) set a good 8th time, Elliot Kaczynski (Tony Kart/Vortex) finished 17th and Aloïs Girardet (CRG/TM) 21st.
Session 5: Costoya – 48”616
Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM) set the fastest second lap ahead of David Cosma-Cristofor (KR/Iame). The Spaniard finished on pole position with a time of 48’616. Lewis Francis (KR/Iame) was 68 thousandths further back. Cosma-Cristofoer was 3rd at 0.170” then Christopher El Feghali (KR/Iame) 4th ahead of Lewis Wherrell (Exprit/TM). Maria Germano Neto (Tony Kart/Vortex) finished 7th.
