The rain was still with us for the final race of the Sarno meeting, the OK final of the WSK Euro Series.
Anatoly Khavalkin (Parolin/TM) battled Kirill Kutskov (KR/Iame) for 1st place right from the start and ended the first lap in the lead. Luigi Coluccio (Tony Kart/Vortex) put up a spectacular fight for 3rd place ahead of Salim Hanna (KR/Iame). But David Walther (Tony Kart/Vortex) climbed back into the top three, while Dmitry Matveev (KR/Iame) struggled in 6th place. Khavalkin quickly got away from his rivals, with a lead of over 1.3″ and the fastest time on the third lap. Matveev was quick to get back into the top five and move up to 4th, while Gustaw Wisniewki (Tony Kart/TM) followed him at a good pace. Colucccio continued to put on a show, but his team-mate Jan Przyrowski (Tony Kart/Vortex) had made up six places to join him. Halfway through the race, Kutskov was suddenly back on Khavalkin’s heels. Khavalkin did not concede defeat to the World Champion and closed the gap, while the two drivers combined boldness and wisdom to stay 3″ ahead of their pursuers. Assured of winning the championship, Kutskov eased off in the final laps and let Khavalkin take the win with a 2″ lead. Walther finished 3rd at over a second’s distance, while Matveev was 4th at over 7″, followed by Wisniewski at 3.5″. Andrea Dupé (KR/Iame) was 18th.
