The air was still very chilly on Sunday morning for the OK Junior Prefinals of the WSK Final Cup in Franciacorta. Only 4° was showing on the thermometer under a beautiful sun with little heat.
Prefinal A: Van Langendonck ahead of Sun
Dries Van Langendonck (Exprit/TM) immediately took the lead over Xiao Yu Sun (Tony Kart/Vortex), while Iacopo Martinese (KR/Iame) was isolated in 3rd place. Thomas Quincé (Tony Kart/Vortex) was 4th. Sun had closed on the leader, who was quick to react. Scott Marsh (Tony Kart/Vortex) moved up to 4th after the halfway point. David Cosma Cristofor (KR/Iame) was back in the top five. Van Langendonck won the race 2.6 tenths ahead of Sun, while Martinese secured 3rd place ahead of Marsh (+7 places) and Cosma Cristofor (+9 places). Quincé finished 7th and Louis Cochet (Sodi/TM) moved up 11 places to 19th.
Prefinal B: Costoya wins by a narrow margin
Filippo Sala (LN/TM) , Jindrich Pesl (Intrepid/TM) and Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM) were close behind in the top 3, with Lewis Wherrell (Exprit/TM) and Roman Kamyab (LN/TM) not far behind in the top 5. Costoya quickly took the lead from Pesl. Niklas Schaufler had moved up 11 places to 5th. 1st place changed hands several times in a tight pack. The battle for victory remained uncertain right to the end between the top 3. Costoya narrowly beat Sala, Wherrell was back in 3rd ahead of Schaufler (+12 places) and Sebastien Lehtimaki (Tony Kart/Vortex).
Van Langendonck retained his 1st place in the standings to start the Final from pole position, closely followed by Sala. Sun, Wherrell and Bottaro completed the top five ahead of Pesl, Martinese and Costoya.
