At its meeting on 6 December 2023 in Baku, capital of Azerbaijan, the FIA World Motor Sport Council took the following decisions on the basis of proposals from the International Karting Commission.
The introduction of FIA Karting Guidelines for Drivers with disabilities (prepared jointly by the Karting, the DAA and the Safety Commissions with the aim of facilitating access for new Drivers) was approved.
Following the success of the recently introduced KZ2 Masters (the gearbox kart category for Drivers aged 35 and over), the initial limit of 36 Drivers per event in the FIA Karting European Championship has been increased to 54.
The fines imposed in karting have been adjusted to bring them into line with the International Sporting Code.
Amendments to Article 2.14 of the FIA Karting General Prescriptions
Changes have been made to the conditions under which Drivers are allowed to restart after stopping on the track following an incident: the Driver will only be allowed one attempt to restart, always off the track line and very carefully. Drivers of karts equipped with an onboard electric starter and clutch will be allowed to attempt to restart at any moment during a race or practice in a safe manner. Any unsafe rejoining of the track will be reported to the Stewards.
The following text has been added: Pushers are not authorised to help Drivers once they have crossed the line established at the exit of the “pre-grid”, drawn at least 15 metres in front of the first position on the “pre-grid”. The official in charge of the “pre-grid” may, at any time, intervene to prevent a mechanic from pushing a kart for safety reasons.
Modification to Article 2.24 of the FIA Karting General Prescriptions
Time penalties for false starts, including overtaking after the red line in the formation lap, crossing lane lines during the start procedure and irregular grid positioning, will be automatically imposed on the Driver concerned by the Stewards without a hearing.
Modification to Article 2.25 of the FIA Karting General Prescriptions – Calculation of points
For the period specified, only the eight best results per Driver obtained at events entered on the CIK-FIA International Sporting Calendar will count towards the FIA International Karting Ranking (IKR). In addition, only the best five results per Driver obtained at all other eligible events on the national calendar of an ASN will be taken into account in establishing the final national ranking.
Modification to Article 19 Case B of the FIA Karting Specific Prescriptions
In order to follow the allocation of points introduced last year, the new 2024 points scale increases the value of the points awarded in the Final: 50 points for 1st place, 44 for 2nd, 38 for 3rd, 34 for 4th, 30 for 5th, 26 for 6th, 22 for 7th, 18 for 8th, 14 for 9th, 10 for 10th, 8 for 11th, 6 for 12th, 4 for 13th, 2 for 14th and 1 point for 15th place.
Modification of Articles 7.3 and 7.4 of the CIK-FIA Technical Regulations
The implementation of the requirement of FIA standard 8877-2022 concerning Drivers’ gloves and shoes is postponed until 1 January 2025 due to the current market situation.

The two adjustable outer parts of the approved rear wheel protection (bumper) must have a clearly different colour from the main part. This can be done by means of a specific sticker kit or by adding colour to the parts during production.
